Blue Waves De’Angel Mathis

#23

Without basketball, De’Angel Mathis doesn’t know where she would be- “Without basketball, I wouldn’t be in school, because right now that’s the only thing that’s paying for it.” Mathis’ story is like so many others, originally taking up basketball in middle school in an attempt to lose weight and get healthy, the sport has now molded her into the person she is. Another driving force in her life? Her parents’ constant encouragement and support, always pushing her to do better.

“Be patient, don’t force anything, and let it come to you.” is the biggest lesson De’Angel has learned in basketball, one that will hopefully push her to attaining her ultimate goal of a doctorate degree in physical therapy.
