Vaxxed is a documentary directed by Andrew Wakefield and produced by Del Bigtree. It first gained attention when it was included in and then removed from the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival.
Vaxxed, being shown at the Regal 18 on Beach Blvd from Fri, Jun 3rd thru Thurs, June 9th, has been held over until Thurs, June 16th. For 2 of the shows on June 4th, the Director and the producer held a Q&A panel after the 4 pm and 7 pm shows. I attended the 4 pm show with my family (who helped me to write this article).
There has been very little media coverage about this documentary since it started playing in limited release. If there has been coverage, it is usually reported that it’s a movie about the discredited English doctor and researcher, Andrew Wakefield.
Vaxxed is not about Dr. Wakefield. It is a film about a man known as the #CDCWhistleblower. Dr. William Thompson is a senior scientist at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Dr. Thompson led that agency’s 2004 study on the Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccine that disproved a link to Autism.
In 2013, Dr. Thompson contacted Brian Hooker, PhD, a researcher and father of a vaccine injured son with Autism. He admitted to Dr. Hooker that the CDC had omitted crucial data in their final 2004 report that claimed there was no link between the MMR vaccine and Autism, especially for African American boys. Dr. Thompson also informed Dr. Hooker that he kept copies of his confidential data and did not destroy it like his colleagues at the CDC.
This documentary contains interviews with pharmaceutical insiders, doctors, politicians and parents of vaccine injured children. After Dr. Thompson’s information came to light and copies of Dr. Thompson’s papers were given to him, Congressman Bill Posey of Florida called for an investigation of the CDC’s MMR research fraud on July 29th, 2015. So far, Congress has not acted on that request!
Since Vaxxed was pulled from the Tribeca Film Festival, Robert De Niro has said he thinks the movie is something that people should see. I completely agree. I think people should go see the movie for themselves and make up their own minds.
It’s important that I disclose that I’ve known Dr. Wakefield since I was a kid. I was vaccine injured as a toddler. My parents and I first met Andy at Cong. Dan Burton’s Autism hearings in Washington DC in April, 2000. At the Q&A panel on the 4th, I asked him what his best advice would be for college students who will probably be thinking about marriage and starting families in the next few years. Del, a former producer for the television show, “The Doctors” and Andy both felt it was very important for the students to do their own research to make informed decisions for their families.
