Fall 2017 staff positions

The Campus Voice is reorganizing and starting Fall 2017 we will be looking to staff several newly defined roles. Please read through the position descriptions and then use the form at the bottom of the page to apply for any position of interest. In addition to the great experience of working for an online publication, pending individual financial aid status, some positions will be eligible for a talent grant and/or scholarship.

Senior Editor

This position holds the final review and oversight of all content published by The Campus Voice and is the public “face” of The Campus Voice at conferences, meetings and other promotional events.
The Senior Editor reviews all articles after the Copy Editor has reviewed them and then schedules their publication. The Senior Editor is a part of the Editorial Board and works in tandem with the News Editor, Creative & Op-Ed Editor and Media Editor during weekly meetings to identify and assign stories to staff writers, photographers and videographers.
The Senior Editor also works with the Marketing & Office Manager to cover office business hours and to ensure promotional marketing is released in tandem with article publication.
Regular writing/posting duties are also expected from this position.

Copy Editor

Edits and supervises the editing of all written matter (news stories, feature stories, captions under photos, by-lines, letters to the editor, editorials, etc) to be published. The copy editor reviews the work of the News Editor and Creative & Op-Ed Editor to assure the accuracy and clarity of all written material. Once the News Editor has reviewed and made any corrections needed they notify the Senior Editor that the article is ready for final review.
The Copy Editor is the last line of defense in catching errors and requires a sound, basic knowledge of grammar, punctuation and spelling. The Copy Editor further relies on The Associated Press Stylebook to ensure formatting consistency.
Regular writing/posting duties are also expected from this position.

News Editor

This position reviews all submitted articles of a journalistic and newsworthy nature. The News Editor is a part of the Editorial Board and works in tandem with the Senior Editor, Creative & Op-Ed Editor and Media Editor during weekly meetings to identify and assign any stories under their purview to staff writers, photographers and videographers. Once the articles have been developed, staff writers provide their draft to the News Editor for initial review. If media is included in the article, the News Editor works in tandem with the Media Editor to include that content. Once an article is formatted and media, if included, is in place, the News editor notifies the Copy Editor that the article is ready for their review.
Regular writing/posting duties are also expected from this position.

Creative & Op-Ed Editor

This position reviews all creative works and submitted editorial content. The Creative & Op-Ed Editor is a part of the Editorial Board and works in tandem with the Senior Editor, News Editor and Media Editor during weekly meetings to identify any content under their purview that has either been submitted or solicited for publication. They will format any written work including editorials and will work in tandem with the Media Editor to format any media content. Once an article is formatted and media, if included, is in place, the Creative & Op-Ed Editor notifies the Copy Editor that the article is ready for their review.
Regular writing/posting duties are also expected from this position.

Media Editor

This position reviews all submitted image, audio and video submissions for proper formatting, compression and compatibility and embeds this content into articles. The Media Editor is a part of the Editorial Board and works in tandem with the Senior Editor, News Editor and Creative & Op-Ed Editor during weekly meetings to identify any media content that needs to be developed in conjunction with an article or as an independent entry. The Media Editor assigns a story to staff photographers and videographers and then collects, formats and places that content into an article. Once this is done the Media editor notifies either the News Editor or Creative & Op-Ed Editor that the article is ready for their review.
Regular writing/posting duties are also expected from this position.

Marketing & Office Manager

This position is responsible for maintaining all utilized social media channels as well as running the physical meeting space for The Campus Voice.
The Marketing Manager will identify which social media channels The Campus Voice will utilize, develop a unique and professional “voice” for all posts and work with the Senior Editor to promote articles and other published content.
The Marketing & Office Manager along with the Senior Editor will also cover The Campus Voice office business hours which will be utilized for any physical meetings, recruiting efforts and other face-to-face requirements.

Staff Writer(s)

The Staff Writer(s) will be assigned stories and deadlines by either the News Editor or the Creative & Op-Ed Editor. The Staff Writer is expected to present the news story facts in a logical and orderly manner making it easy for the reader to follow the account of the event from beginning to end. The Staff Writer must be unbiased and report all aspects of a news event; the writer’s opinion must be kept out of news and feature articles.

Staff Photographer(s)

The Staff Photographer(s) will be assigned events to photograph by either the News editor or the Creative & Op-Ed Editor. They will frequently accompany reporters on assignments. The Staff Photographer should gather any necessary information for an image caption while on assignment. Photographs taken should be submitted to the Media Editor.

Staff Videographer(s)

The Staff Videographer(s) will be assigned events to film by either the News editor or the Creative & Op-Ed Editor. They will frequently accompany reporters on assignments. The Staff Videographer should gather any necessary information for a media caption while on assignment. Videos taken should be submitted to the Media Editor.
