Please join us during the Fall 2015 / Spring 2016 term as we welcome Kyle Leahy Walsh as an intern with a focus on cartooning. Every week Kyle will share new cartoon work so be sure to check back weekly!
Kyle Leahy Walsh, originally from New York, moved to Florida when he was 13 years old. He’s a 2012 graduate of Ridgeview High School. Kyle was diagnosed with Autism in 1996 at 4 years of age. His unique art ability suddenly materialized in late 1998 after receiving an IV therapy to boost his immune system.
Kyle has won several art awards and contests such as the NYS PTA Reflections winner (Special Ed) and “Art Builds Florida”. Some of his pictures were selected for the book “The Art of the Mind”, by the MIND Institute, University of California Davis. When he was 9 years old, Kyle designed the logo for the organization “Parents Run AMOC” located in Orange County, NY.
Kyle has donated art and cartoons to many autism related groups, among them TMR, Unlocking Autism, CARD and the HEAL Foundation. A 2008 artwork, auctioned at TPC Sawgrass for the HEAL Foundation, is on display at the MOCA. In 2010, he was invited to an insider’s tour of both Disney and Dream Works Animation Studios.
Kyle is currently a student at Florida State College Jacksonville majoring in Digital Media. After graduating in the spring of 2016 with an A.S. degree, he hopes to have his own web based microenterprise and to become a cartoonist and illustrator.
